About Amy

Amy Stenger-Sullivan (she/her/hers) is a Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor, trainer and CEO of Rooted Compassion Counseling and Consulting, LLC. Amy is a Certified Trauma Responsive Counselor and specializes in using and teaching about the Polyvagal Theory to help people move into post-traumatic healing and growth. Her style is compassionate, empathetic, direct and infused with humor.

Amy's understanding of emotional struggles is extensive and she is deeply skilled and adept at helping people work through theirs. Feelings and trauma are experienced first in our bodies, then our brain. Amy knows the work has to start in creating awareness of this.

Having twenty years experience as a massage therapist and body worker uniquely positions Amy to understand the body-mind connection. In sessions with Amy, you can expect her to encourage you to making this connection for yourself, accessing the wealth of information the body has to offer us about feelings and past experiences. This is the connection that bring lasting healing and growth.

Specialties Amy brings to her work:

Amy is an Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) trained clinician and she helps people move through the effects of trauma and embrace post traumatic growth.

Amy has a passion for writing and brings that to the Writing Circles she facilitates,  helping others to process emotions, dreams and ideas. The writing circle provides a place for deep compassion and holding. Amy was trained through Women Writing for a Change.

As a SoulCollage® Facilitator, Amy uses the activity of collage making to help people realize their strengths and process events with which they are struggling. This is a great activity for learning more about ones self in a creative way.

As a somatic health expert, Amy provides compassionate, person-focused and practical therapy to individuals experiencing grief, anxiety, depression, trauma, stress and work-life balance challenges.

After a long career as a massage therapist and international massage instructor, Amy realized her desire to expand her career into counseling. She completed her Masters in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from the Union Institute and University. Through Rooted Compassion Counseling and Consulting, LLC, she offers therapy as a Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor and trainer specializing in working with those who have experienced or are experiencing trauma and the effects of trauma including anxiety, depression or grief.

Amy brings a long history of service with new families to the counseling field. She works with women, couples and families experiencing infertility, pregnancy and postpartum struggles.

For many years, Amy has studied the Polyvagal Theory and uses it as the base of her work in helping those who have experienced trauma. She developed a mapping system to aid others in understanding their reactions in relationships, their past and current experiences and how to heal and move forward. Amy has taught this system to other counselors who are also finding success in using it with their clients.

As an Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) Trained Clinician, Amy assists people in moving from post-traumatic stress to post-traumatic growth. The EMDR process can help individuals unhook the intense emotions from the memory of the experience and reduce the effects of trauma.

Rooted Compassion offers online therapy for people in Ohio. In-person therapy in the Cincinnati office will open as it is deemed safe.
